IT TOOK ME TIME TO LEAN INTO MYSELF by Max Eati
Tomorrow is wedged
between you and me
A stillness apocalypse
led me down the endless stream
It Took Me Time to Lean into Myself is the third of eight chapbooks Max Eati (he/they) memorized in their brain. They scribed these poems with endless dedication to feeling themselves and their space in this world.
From the author: I am a disabled nonspeaking neurodivergent. I write poems, songs, blogs and essays. I write and publish in sprints because, similar to many other disabled artists, my health interferes with my ability to work on them as much as I want to. I love writing about history, leaders of the past, aphorisms, spirituality, nature, impacts of human behaviors on nature and community, disability rights, self-advocacy and most importantly how people with and without disabilities can be radically integrated into shared communities. I have three published poetry chapbooks, co-written with my sibling Mark. My writing was also featured in Chris Martin’s book May Tomorrow Be Awake: On Poetry, Autism, and Our Neurodiverse Future. With my sibling Mark, I am a co-founder of two nonprofits, Autism Sibs Universe and Alapa, working to build and support neurodiverse communities. You can find more of our work at growourjoy.org.
